These systems were originally developed to improve on traditional torsion springs by hiding the garage door springs within a spring bar/torsion tube. These systems also use small, plastic drums placed on each end of the torsion tube, connecting the drums to the bottom bracket of the door. Because of this specialized design, the springs can counterbalance the heavy weight of the door, so the drums and cables can then lower and lift the door when opening and closing.
